The Parents as Teachers (PAT) Alaska State Office offers a variety of training opportunities including those open to anyone in the field of early childhood as well as those limited to PAT programs. Born to Learn Institutes: Born to Learn trainings are designed for individuals employed by a program utilizing the PAT Born to Learn model. Participants will return to their communities ready to implement the PAT Born to Learn model, either as a stand-alone program or as part of another early childhood program such as Early Head Start, Head Start, Infant Learning Program, Even Start, etc. Each training focuses on personal visits, group meetings, screenings, community resources, as well as child development and parenting information.
Born to Learn Prenatal to Three Years Training Institute (click here for more information): This is a comprehensive five-day Institute which focuses upon the Born to Learn Prenatal to Three Years curriculum. Topics such as neuroscience research on early development and learning (prenatal through age 3), effective instructional personal visits and ideas for parent group meetings are covered in the Institute.
Born to Learn Three Years to Kindergarten Entry Training Institute (click here for more information): This is a two-day Institute which focuses on the Born to Learn Three Years to Kindergarten Entry Curriculum. In order to attend, participants must first be certified in the Born to Learn Prenatal to Three Years Curriculum. This training covers the intellectual, language, social-emotional, and motor development of children 3 to 5 years of age as well as techniques for facilitating parent-child interactions during person visits. The curriculum consists of 11 units of personal visit plans and parenting information.
