Anchorage Services Division
Anchorage Homeless Outreach Project - The Anchorage Homeless Outreach Program encompasses outreach specifically for potential Homeward Bound and Community bound residents as well as homeless individuals needing assistance. RurAL CAP also partners with other agencies for the Anchorage Project Homeless Connect two times per year. Affordable Housing - The Affordable Housing program provides safe, affordable housing for below market rental prices to low income and homeless persons. Community Bound - Community Bound is a complimentary component of Homeward Bound focusing on case management services, employment and housing. Homeward Bound - Homeward Bound is a 25 bed transitional living program offering chronic homeless alcoholics the tools and resources needed to move from decades of homelessness to stable, meaningful, and personally satisfying reintegration into the community.
Child Development Division
Child Development Center - The CDC provides full-day, year-round child care for families. Early Head Start - The Early Head Start program serves children age birth to three and ensures children are healthy and thriving in all areas of child development. Head Start - Head Start is a comprehensive child development program that serves children age three to five and their families and prepares children for kindergarten. Parents as Teachers (PAT) - PAT is an early childhood parent education and family support program designed to empower parents to give their children the best possible start in life.
Community Development Division
Alaska Environmental Resource Hub Online (AERHO.org) - AERHO.org is a website dedicated to addressing local and statewide environmental and health issues. Alaska Native Subsistence Halibut Working Group (ANSHWG) - RurAL CAP provides administrative and logistical support to ANSHWG which consults with the National Marine Fisheries Service and provides input on the impact of halibut fisheries regulations to subsistence users. Alaska Village Indoor Air Quality (AVIAQ) - The AVIAQ program provides education through home visits and community events to improve indoor air quality in rural homes. BIRCH AmeriCorps - The Building Initiatives in Rural Community Health program enables members to engage in community service in the area of rural community health in partnership with local health providers. Early Decisions FASD Prevention - The Early Decisions fetal alcohol syndrome disorder (FASD) project informs women of the dangers of drinking alcohol while pregnant. Energy Wise - A new American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funded program, workers in 32 communities conduct energy saving measures in 2,200 homes. HIV/STD Prevention - The Community Voices Project is and HIV/STD prevention project to train AmeriCorps Members who then train community members. RurAL CAP partnered with the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services to develop a media campaign to educate rural Alaskans about HIV/AIDS prevention. Methamphetamine Prevention and Education - Staff members conduct training sessions to inform public of the dangers of abusing methamphetamine drugs and prevention measures. RAVEN AmeriCorps - The Rural Alaska Village Environmental Network program enables members to provide environmental clean-up, preservation and education to communities in Alaska. Rural Providers' Conference - The RPC is an annual sobriety conference which supports the continuation of the Alaska Native sobriety movement. Solid Waste Projects - RurAL CAP and partners provide solid waste grant management and technical assistance in rural Alaska. Students In Service (SIS) AmeriCorps - The SIS AmeriCorps program provides nursing and social work students the opportunity to earn a partial education award by completing community service hours. Tobacco Prevention and Cessation - BIRCH AmeriCorps Members utilize the Tobacco Education and Cessation for Alaskans curriculum designed by RurAL CAP. VISTA Energy Program - VEP members work to reduce the burden of energy costs in their rural communities, through projects like energy efficient education and home energy auditing. Youth In Action - RurAL CAP designed a pilot project to activate village youth in AmeriCorps communities in peer-to-peer education, community service, cultural activities and other healthy recreational activities.
Rural Housing and Planning Division
Community Planning Services - RurAL CAP serves Alaskan communities by facilitating discussions between non-profit, state, federal, funding agencies, community and regional representatives to support priority community projects. Self-Help Housing - The Self-Help Owner-Built homeownership program provides education and training to rural families who meet certain eligibility requirements. Housing Help Now Alaska - This is statewide housing counseling/legal assistance project with a hotline (1-888-643-5725) and website (www.housinghelpnowalaska.org). Weatherization - RurAL CAP's weatherization and rehabilitation programs refurbish older homes to make them warmer and more energy efficient.
