RurAL CAP OverviewRurAL CAP, founded in 1965, is a private, statewide, nonprofit organization working to improve the quality of life for low-income Alaskans. Governed by a 24-member Board of Directors representing every region of the state, RurAL CAP is one of the largest and most diversified organizations in Alaska. In 2009, RurAL CAP employed 859 Alaskans in 79 communities statewide during the reporting period.  We also expended $26 million to provide our programs.  The vast majority of these funds were spent in Alaska.

RurAL CAP recognizes the unique values and way of life of rural Alaskans.  It plans its activities with input from and respect for the people it serves.  It follows the belief that rural Alaskan communities have the right to maintain their cultural heritage and close relationship to the land while protecting their economic and human potential.
